Tempe, AZ (My Sportsbook) - The Arizona Cardinals placed running back Marcel Shipp and fullback James Hodgins on injured reserve Wednesday night, effectively ending their seasons. Shipp broke his leg in training camp on August 6. He emerged ahead of Emmitt Smith as the team's starting running back five games into the 2003 season and rushed for 830 yards. Smith will once again start the season as the No. 1 tailback, and the club acquired his former backup in Dallas, Troy Hambrick, from Oakland on Tuesday to add depth in the backfield. Hodgins has been out all preseason with a shoulder injury. The Cardinals also claimed running back Aveion Cason and defensive tackle Shaun Smith off waivers from the Cowboys.
