Madison, WI (My Sportsbook) - Wisconsin starting quarterback Jim Sorgi is expected to miss this Saturday's game against Northwestern due to a knee injury. Sorgi left Saturday's 26-23 loss to Purdue in the third quarter and underwent surgery on Sunday. "Jim (Sorgi) had surgery yesterday. We were really going to do it after this game anyhow, during the open date, and have the surgery done. We think he'll be back for the last three games," head coach Barry Alvarez explained of Sorgi undergoing surgery a week before originally planned. Sorgi, who was helped off the field, called his own number on a 1st-and-10 play from midfield and fell awkwardly in a squatting position when he was tackled by a Boilermaker defender. He was up and walking on the Wisconsin sideline and looked to be warming up, but never returned Sorgi was 6-of-9 for 118 yards and an interception before leaving. Backup Matt Schabert, who came on as a reserve the past two weeks, will start in Sorgi's place. He was 5-of-9 for 78 yards in the loss to Purdue. "I think when you know you're going to be the starter right off the bat you put in a little more time, you're a little more focused on the task at hand," Schabert said of his newfound role of starting quarterback.
