Santa Clara, CA (My Sportsbook) - San Francisco 49ers running back Garrison Hearst was back at practice on Friday despite a strained right hamstring that has him listed as questionable for Sunday's NFC West showdown against Arizona. The Niners and Cardinals are both 4-2 and sit atop the NFC West. Hearst was hurt in the third quarter of last week's 35-27 loss to New Orleans and briefly left the game, but finished the contest with 87 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 14 carries. He also had four catches for 43 yards. If Hearst is unable to play Sunday, Kevan Barlow would get the start. Barlow had 28 yards on six carries and three receptions for 43 yards in last week's game. Barlow and Hearst split the reps in practice on Friday. Hearst has 386 yards on 73 carries this season and 158 yards on 22 receptions with four total touchdowns. Barlow has 320 rushing yards and two scores. Wide receiver J.J. Stokes is probable for Sunday's game after missing the past two contests with a sprained right MCL, but will likely not start, and Terrell Owens is also probable despite a sore heel that had him in a protective boot earlier this week. The Niners could be short at tight end on Sunday, as Eric Johnson is battling a sore lower back. San Francisco placed linebacker Frank Strong on injured reserve Friday, one day after he underwent surgery on his right shoulder. The 49ers have not filled the roster spot, but could sign tight end Mark Anelli off the practice squad if Johnson is unable to play.
